Get involved: DA D/2008/1590 for former UN/DCM premises - submissions close Wednesday 8 October

From the information publicly available, this application states that the premises will be under new management and the applicant is not associated with the former operator of UN/DCM (Solowave). The applicant intends to rebrand the nightclub as a venue for the GLBT community.

The Operational and Security Management Plan submitted states that the licensee is Ayden Walker. We believe this to be the same person who was appointed as the licensee of UN/DCM in December 2007.

The Acoustic Consultant who assessed the noise attenuation works that are proposed is the same consultant who testified on Solowave’s behalf at the Land & Environment Court hearings earlier this year.

Irrespective of the branding, or the operator, the City of Sydney’s Late Night Trading Development Control Plan 2007 considers late trading hours (beyond midnight) to be a privilege, not a right. Extended hours will be approved in circumstances where an ongoing commitment to good management is evident through a series of successful trial periods. They may also be permitted at the initial DA stage, but only where the Council has determined that the premises have been (or will be) well managed, including compliance with a Plan of Management.

This new DA will be assessed on its merits within the bounds of planning legislation. It’s important that you make your views known to Council.

A summary of the application, what you can do, and an online submission form are available here.
