Alcohol Free Zones
It's an offence to drink alcohol on any street or footpath where an Alcohol Free Zone exists, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Alcohol Free Zones do not apply to parks.
Any person living or working within the area, the local police or a local community group may ask the council to establish an alcohol-free zone or council itself may decide to do so. A proposal to establish an alcohol-free zone must be supported by evidence that the public’s use of those roads or carparks has been compromised by street drinkers. For example, there could be instances of malicious damage to property, littering, offensive behaviour or other crimes.
The NSW Police are responsible for enforcing Alcohol Free Zones.
For more information on applying for an Alcohol Free Zone, see the Ministerial Guidelines on Alcohol Free Zones.
